Dinner and Filming Slideshow
March 23, 2010: Families, along with volunteers of SVC, Call Me Misters, Carolyn Lecroy (Top Ten CNN Hero and award-winning producer) and videographer Kevin O’Sullivan met at the China Super Buffet for dinner and to begin the first phase of a documentary on children of prisoners.  Carolyn interviewed children individually while everyone else caught up with each other.  Also, every child also drew a picture of his or her family on a small poster board.  T.R. provided wonderful entertainment on his keyboard!  All together, it was a great time!  About 55 people attended.

The Green Maze

Check back for details about the Grand Opening coming this summer!

Twenty-six teenagers, along with several children of prisoners from Anderson County participated in the first life-changing science and engineering camp, A-MAZE-ING Camp Success, in June of 2008.  What originated as a design project for summer camp has turned into a beautification effort for an impoverished area of Anderson, creating a community park called the Green Maze.

Since the Green Maze Groundbreaking Ceremony in September of 2008, there has been a community effort to develop the park.  Over 200 members of the community came together to build a pavilion and plant flowers later that month.  In April of 2009, nine wardens, twelve children, and three representatives from Clemson’s Call Me Misters program planted 150 Leyland Cyprus Trees around the property.  In June of 2009, Kathy Wright of Clemson University 4H Club helped youth and parents establish an Anderson 4H group to work on projects to maintain and improve the Green Maze.  Also in June of 2009, thirty-five members of Clemson’s Call Me Mister program, joined New York Warden, Mel Williams and Mayor of Anderson, Terence Roberts, to assemble swing sets and a tire obstacle course.  Work on the Green Maze continued in August as volunteers planted two gardens and installed benches and monkey bars.  Currently, a sculpture is being designed by an art student at Clemson University.  A video documentary is also being developed, which will help spread the story of the Green Maze project.

As you can see, this is an exciting project in the Anderson community, one we wanted to share with you.  Although the summer camp’s design has already come to life in many ways, there is still a lot of work to be done before the Grand Opening in July of 2010.  If you are interested in joining our efforts, please contact us for more information.
